NYIF is established by the New York Stock Exchange as part of the New York Exchange Institute.
1924 - 1926
205 employees from the New York Stock Exchange graduate from the Institute in 1924. A report of the New York Stock Exchange shows that in 1926, the New York Institute introduced the “Mock Market”, a trading simulation conducted on the floor of the Exchange, after trading hours. The simulation then became an integral part of the one-year training program for new employees.

Courses of the Institute are extended to employees of members firms of the New York Stock Exchange and are extremely popular. According to a report published by The New York Times in 1934, the enrollment reaches a high record of 5,551 persons despite the depression, which increased fivefold over six years.

The name of the New York Stock Exchange changes to the New York Institute of Finance (NYIF). The same year, NYIF becomes a separate institution.
1941
During the Second World War, NYIF establishes war-training programs with support from the army and war experts.
1942
NYIF is granted permission to use the board of governor’s meeting room for a lecture course during the war training.
1945
NYIF aligns with the New York Stock Exchange and New York University to support returned veterans with training to help them get a job replacement in the financial industry.
1950

Warren Buffett attends NYIF after graduating from Columbia University. Afterwards, he soon begins his career as an investment salesperson and received an offer of US$12,000 a year at Graham-Newman Corp three years later.
1957
Pearson PLC acquires the Financial Times.

NYIF is sold by the New York Stock Exchange to Prentice-Hall.
1965
NYIF grows into an international leader in financial education, admitting and teaching students from 50 states and 17 foreign countries.

NYIF keeps fostering business leaders regardless of their backgrounds, ethnicities, and gender over 3 decades. Famous alumni include Travers J. Bell Jr., the founder and owner of the only black-owned member firm of the New York Stock Exchange. He was also regarded as the “father of the modern minority-owned investment bank” by Investment Dealers Digest (a full-service multimedia financial publishing, database, software, and consulting company founded in 1935) in 1999. According to The Afro American in 1984, Bell received his education at Washington University and the New York Institute of Finance.

Person PLC acquires the Simon & Schuster educational division, Prentice-Hall, from Viacom, and owndership of NYIF is moved to Pearson PLC.

NYIF opens its Beijing office.

By 2011, the Institute had published more than 30 books on financial education over the last 4 decades.
2013
Pearson PLC transfers ownership of NYIF directly to the Financial Times Group (FT).
2015
Nikkei announces and completes an agreement to acquire the Financial Times Group from Pearson PLC.
2017
A consortium of companies purchases NYIF from the FT, and becomes an independently held business, headquartered in New York, providing world-class training to professionals in the financial services and related industries.
2017
The same year, NYIF launches the Chartered Investment Banking Analyst™ (CIBA), a new professional designation in the financial services industry.
2020
2020
NYIF and Google Cloud launch a Machine Learning for Trading Specialization on Coursera.
2020
NYIF launches its G2020 series of programs including Young Finance Scholars™ (YFS), Young Equity Analyst™ (YEA), and Success Development Program™ (SDP). The same year, NYIF runs the first course of the Prosperity for All Initiative™ (PAI) program.
2021
NYIF announces partnership with the Digital Assets Council of Finance Professionals, an organization founded by Ric Edelman, for the Certificate in Blockchain & Digital Assets® Program.
2022
NYIF announces partnership with Manhattanville College, offering undergraduate and graduate programs in financial analytics, business management, and educational management.

NYIF launches the Stock Trading Professional Certificate: Online
